The Leitrim Design House, shortlisted as one of the best gift/design/interiors shops in Ireland by The Irish Times readers 2014 and 2015, is housed in The Dock, a beautiful 19th century Courthouse building located in the heart of Carrick–on-Shannon overlooking the River Shannon. The retail gallery is a landmark tourist attraction attracting substantial visitor numbers into the town.
This Centre of Excellence is a non-profit organisation committed to supporting the development and success of designers, makers and artists working in the creative sector. Established by Leitrim County Enterprise Board in 1996, it has now become one of the most progressive craft, art & design initiatives in Ireland and is recognised as a model of best practice by the Design and Craft Council of Ireland.
A unique showcase of Irish craft and design, the Leitrim Design House is an excellent model of sustainable practice, providing a route to market for makers while ensuring that money is kept within the region and delivering services that add value to both the local creative sector and the wider community.
We foster the development, promotion and sustainability of craft, art and design businesses in Ireland with a special focus on Leitrim. We nurture and support Irish makers and designers, both emerging and established creative businesses, through training, mentoring and networking combined with a range of product testing options in the retail gallery.
We have extensive experience in event management and manage a busy schedule of activities. The event calendar offers opportunities for customers to learn about the process involved in the creation of the pieces on show; to meet the makers behind the products; to listen to their stories; to view exclusive designs produced in an environmentally responsible way and to taste the creative process.
