Giolla, one of 4 children, was born in the West of Ireland from a line of carpenters and craftsmen. Since a young boy, he had observed his father working and began to work and enjoy the natural beauty of wood for himself.
It has remained a family business and Giolla and his wife Emily and their four young children are carrying on the family tradition of “first class craftsmanship”. A creative enterprise, Artwood Ireland, has an expanding range of natural and handcrafted home and gift ideas. Each piece is handcrafted in their workshop under the Sliabh an Iarainn mountain in County Leitrim.
Wood and sunlight seem to go naturally together. For Giolla Liddy it means using the woodworking skills he learned as a child to create a range of beautiful moon suncatchers, iris suncatchers and ring suncatchers which throw dazzling rainbow light all around. Set in the window to catch the light, the suncatchers, made in a range of woods and Asfour crystal shapes, create a spectrum of coloured light on the dullest of days – just beautiful and they make wonderful gifts.
Artwood works with locally sourced woods and high quality finishing products, non-toxic finishes and environmentally friendly packaging.
