PJ Rigney The Shed Distillery

The Leitrim Design House would like to introduce Patrick J. Rigney, a serial entrepreneur with a strong track record in the food & drinks sector and more recently in the pharmaceutical, tourism and equestrian sectors. Patrick is well

Pat-and-Denise-Rigney-filling-the-1st-cask-of-whiskey-in-Connacht-in-over-101-years-960x423known for his expertise in international business, brand development and marketing. A brand inventor, champion marketer and entrepreneur, his latest venture is the creation of a new multi-purpose distillery in Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim, where he is developing a new range of craft style spirit brands for international markets. “There is a wonderful environment and a rich heritage here in Leitrim. Everyone wanted to support the project.”

The Shed Distillery is Connacht’s first distillery in over 101 years and Gunpowder Gin their first release is also Connacht’s first gin. This gin is batch distilled by a small team of six who follow a meticulous distillation process to create this unique gin. All natural oriental botanicals such as Star Anise and Angelica Root along with Juniper berries and locally foraged Meadowsweet are allowed to steep in a beautiful steam fired copper pot. Filled with experiments and recipes for herbaceous gins, potato vodkas, handcrafted Irish Pot Still and Single Malt Irish whiskey and new liqueurs, visitors are welcome to wander through the Shed’s ‘secret tabernacle’ where new recipes are being developed, stand alongside the gleaming copper medieval stills, see the distillers in action and experience the magic.

Patrick would recommend becoming an entrepreneur to others, but knows it is not for everyone. “A career as an entrepreneur is not for the faint-hearted. It pushes you outside your comfort zone. What makes it all worthwhile I, knowing you have taken a risk and seeing it pay off. That’s the best feeling in the world’

Patrick will join our panel of speakers at the Leitrim Design House 2017 Conference on Feb 11th. Listen to him weave a wonderful story of business and brand development.
