Paul Coyne loves to work with contemporary design. That passion led him to study furniture design at G.M.I.T. Letterfrack and then to a job in the construction industry. However, the financial downturn saw Paul lose his job, an event he saw as an opportunity to re-invent himself. So, continuing to use the medium he always loved to work with, Paul set up his own company, Nine Design, and began designing a range of jewellery made from wood.
Designing and producing his pieces from a workshop just outside Tullamore in County Offaly, Paul initially used only wood but soon realised that adding colour to each piece was going to be what set it apart from other wood jewellery makers. Resin was the ideal material to use to achieve the designs he had in mind. Thus, Paul’s first complete range was born – stunningly simple wooden pendants, earrings and cuff links with coloured resin inlays.
Soon Paul wanted to diversify and looked into producing pieces using sterling silver, while maintaining his use of resin for splashes of colour. The result is another simple yet sleek and contemporary range which includes pendants, earrings, rings, bangles and cuff links. A unique feature of this range is that the rings and bangles can be stacked side by side to create a whole new look which the wearer can change about to suit their outfit or mood!
Paul, buoyed by the love and support of his family, loyal friends and an ever increasing circle of fans of his work, pushes his commitment to his craft tirelessly and consistentlt. He never sees any setback as a negative, rather he sees it as a positive through which he can further improve and grow his business. His strength of character and unending flow of creativity and imagination means he has become a well known designer in the region who is sought after by the style conscious.
