Maker: Tom Callery
16 cm x 12 cm
These fun ceramic pots have a character all of their own.
Working from sketches and photographs of river banks, bogs & landscapes, Tom incises these images onto clay forms, and then uses an ancient Japanese glazing technique called “raku”which produces an array of rich iridescent colours & hues.
Tom Callery has been working through the medium of clay for over twenty years. Originally from Kilkenny Tom moved to Sligo to study Fine Art in college and was immediately drawn in the direction of ceramics. After leaving college in 1993, he gained valuable experience working in the ceramic studio of Michael Kennedy in Sligo. He ultimately set up a studio with his wife Gráinne MacLoughlin called Breeogue Pottery Callery Ceramics in 1998. In 2006 Tom Callery Ceramics moved his work to a new studio near their home in Cloonamangh.
