Handmade Tea Light Holder Ash Wood
No tree is like another, no two branches are the same, and their grain pattern is a distinctive as finger print. Their shape tells the story of the wind and the weather…
These tealights are hand-turned in County Leitrim from native timber. Roy’s simple, elegant designs will complement any home and bring light to any dark corner.
Roy is the 4th generation of the Humphreys family working with wood. A self-taught turner, he started out turning as a hobby which since developed into a business. His studio is based in the Granary, beside his family home outside Mohill where his family have been farming for generations. He uses all native timber in his work: yew, beech, oak, elm and ash among others.

“Woodturning is a journey of discovery” says Roy, “acquiring the wood and imagining all its possibilities, the turning process itself, removing the turned piece from the lathe and when the wood has been left to dry for a number of months, rediscovering it again – applying oil to the raw surface and seeing the richness and depth of colour and grain spring magically to life”.
