Luxury combined with simplicity and strength; kind to the environment and kind to your skin. These are just some of the attributes that come to mind when we think about the award winning skincare products created by Majella McAuley who runs the Natural Ireland and The Soap Box business based in the Food Hub in Drumshanbo.
The business has grown out of Majella’s interest in natural skincare & a belief that the more natural the product, the more beneficial it is to our skin. Made from only natural ingredients these products are designed to be good for you and good for the planet. These skincare products include a full range of handcrafted cold process soaps and a range of handmade traditional shaving soaps.
Majella’s handcrafted high quality natural soaps have taken on a new level of importance in our battle with Covid-19. People typically think of soap as gentle and soothing, but from the perspective of microorganisms, it is often extremely destructive
In fact the ancient discovery of soap altered human history. Although our ancestors could not have foreseen it, soap would ultimately become one of our most effective defences against invisible pathogens.
A drop of ordinary soap diluted in water is sufficient to rupture and kill many types of bacteria and viruses, including the coronavirus that is currently circling the globe. When you wash your hands with soap and water, you surround any microorganisms on your skin with soap molecules whose tails have the effect of prying microbes and viruses apart. When you rinse your hands, all the microorganisms that have been damaged, trapped and killed by soap molecules are washed away.
Majella advises “We are all washing our hands more during the coronavirus pandemic so it is important to use high quality natural soaps ,which as well as combating the virus, keep the skin in good condition preventing other skin problems which means we can go on washing our hands more and more. Natural soaps are less harsh than many other sanitizing products. They contain glycerine which attracts moisture to the skin which helps prevent dry cracked skin.”
A blend of food grade olive oil, coconut oil and castor oil is used in the making of these soaps which results in a glycerine rich bar with a rich luscious long lasting lather. Beeswax is added for hardness. The scents used are from a blend of pure grade essential oils, each with its own therapeutic properties. Each variety of soap has its own natural exfoliant in the form of flower buds and seeds, citrus rind, wholegrains and seaweeds. The colours are made from plant roots and seeds. All soaps are handmade in small batches, to ensure the finest quality. Hand made products are of the highest quality as they are not mass produced but hand crafted in a carefully controlled process
Majella also produces an award winning range of traditional luxury shaving soaps. This collection of shaving soaps, formulated for sensitive skin, scooped the Bronze Award in the Male Grooming category in the prestigious UK Freefrom SkinCare Awards 2017. All of Majella’s shaving soaps contain gentle natural ingredients which reduce irritation and sensitivity. These luxurious shaving soaps are made from 100% pure natural ingredients. They are rich in natural oils and butters which protect sooth and moisturise the skin before, during and after shaving.
Do you shave every day? Majella tell us that customers have reported back getting up to 150 shaves from a single tin of her shaving soap, that’s 4 times longer than your average tin of shaving foam or gel. Another plus is that the high quantities of oils used in her shaving soap formulations deliver exceptional razor glide, reducing razor burn, nicks and cuts. These high quantities of oil also leave your skin smooth and moisturised, giving a comfortable aftershave feel.
