Antrim

Aon Droim

The Lone Ridge refers to the county town of Antrim, and a monastery that was built there. It is thought to be a mistranslation of the word Aontreibh, meaning “Lone House” most likely the monk’s house. However more famously associated with Antrim is of course The Giant’s Causeway, one of the Island’s UNESCO World Heritage sites. Here there is another Lone Ridge that majestically overlooks thousands of basalt rock formations. These ancient hexagonal columns cascade and disappear down into the North Atlantic, a remnant from Irelands volcanic past.

From these spectacular rock formations, the Puffin colonies on Rathlin to the ruins of Dunluce, the Antrim Coast is one of the most beautiful in Ireland.
