Culture Night is Ireland's yearly celebration of its rich cultural heritage by creating a country-wide evening of free creative events, workshops and entertainment for all of the family.
Visual artist Kate Murtagh Sheridan returned to the Leitrim Design House for Culture Night 2019, to encourage workshop participants of all ages to be creative by teaching them to make and use their own paint. Kate specialises in ceramics, painting and drawing. She is also a qualified Art teacher with a TUSLA child safety Certificate. She shared with parents, children and toddlers how to make toxic-free paint from scratch in a 45 minute workshop.
Once they created a batch of homemade paint, participants explored painting techniques using paint brushes, their hands and recycled materials to make colourful masterpieces. The paint was non-toxic, edible and easily washed away. Participants were encouraged to wear old clothes or an apron!
