The Leitrim Way

Duration: 2-3 Days

Level: Challenging but rewarding

A stunning 56km walking trail that showcases the very best of Ireland’s northwest.  Split into 3 sections, the Leitrim Way begins at Manorhamilton Castle and runs almost the length of Leitrim County, concluding at Leitrim Village over 2–3 unforgettable days. This scenic route takes you from the majestic heights of Boleybrack Mountain and the tranquil beauty of Doolough lake, through rolling farmlands, historic villages, and along peaceful trails. You'll pass the source of the River Shannon at Dowra and enjoy breathtaking views of Lough Allen as you make your way to Drumshanbo and Ireland’s first floating boardwalk at Acres Lake. Part of the iconic Beara-Breifne Way, this trail is steeped in history and local culture, offering an authentic and enriching adventure through some of Ireland’s most unspoiled landscapes in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands.

O’Rourke’s Table, Dromahair, Co.Leitrim

Duration: 1 hour

Level: Short and steep—perfect for a quick adventure!

O’Rourke’s Table is a must-visit gem near the village of Dromahair in North Leitrim, offering breathtaking panoramic views over Lough Gill, Parke’s Castle, and Sligo Bay from its flat-topped summit. A short but rewarding 1km loop trail leads you through lush countryside and historic stone walls, with a steep but manageable climb via carved steps to the top. Along the way, keep an eye out for the “sleeping warrior” rock formation. O’Rourke’s Table is tied to many legends - tales of love, betrayal, and ancient Irish royalty. Easily accessible from Dromahair, it’s the perfect blend of nature, history, and folklore in one unforgettable outdoor experience.

Crummy Loop Walk:

Duration: 3 Hours to 3 hours 30 mins

Level: For those who enjoy a little challenge and a lot of scenery

This scenic loop walk begins at Jackie Lee’s Shop and Post Office in Aghacashel, just a short drive from Drumshanbo. Following the purple arrows, the route leads you along quiet country roads, grassy laneways, and through peaceful forestry before opening out onto bogland with beautiful open views. The trail includes a mix of terrain—from shaded woodland paths to sandy and surfaced roadways—offering a gentle adventure through the Leitrim countryside. At around 7km in length, it's a moderately challenging walk that rewards your efforts with varied landscapes, tranquil surroundings, and a lovely sense of rural escape.

Cartron (Troll) Wood:

Duration: 1 Hour

Level: A moderate trail with big rewards

This delightful 1.2km woodland walk is tucked beside Parke’s Castle and the shores of Lough Gill, just outside Dromahair. Winding through a peaceful mix of broadleaf and conifer trees planted in the 1960s, the trail begins with a gentle riverside stroll before rising gradually over two charming footbridges. Along the way, you’ll pass a lovely little waterfall and take in the stunning gorge scenery that flanks the river. It’s a short, scenic walk that’s perfect for all ages—and a firm favourite with families and little adventurers.
