ARTWALL Niamh Slack

in News

We are delighted to host a new exhibition of paintings by artist Niamh Slack, on view from May 11th. This collection titled ‘Solace, land and sea’ explores gardens and seascapes as places of solace - spaces where the eye, and the mind, are invited to rest.

Moving between cultivated landscapes and open horizons, the work reflects a search for quiet and balance within the natural world. Through attentive observation of light, colour and atmosphere, the paintings capture moments of stillness and gentle movement - petals stirred by air, water meeting sky. Together, they suggest nature not only as a subject, but as a source of renewal - offering viewers an opportunity to pause, breathe and reconnect.

Niamh returned home to her native County Mayo a number of years ago. She very recently moved into her newly built home studio, overlooking a vast expanse of bogland. She is constantly inspired by the changing light of the West of Ireland. When depicting seascapes she's drawn to the wealth of colours and tones that can be found in rock & cloud formations. The changing colours of woodland and garden scenes continue to inspire her, Niamh enjoys painting ‘en plein air’. When possible, she likes to complete as much of the painting outside as possible. The unpredictability of the Irish weather only allows for short periods of time outside, completing quick sketches, and memorising the scene before her.

The artist’s favourite stage in the painting process is the very beginning of a painting, once the design has been laid out. She works fast applying layers of paint with a palette knife, quickly trying to capture the essence of the landscape before her. After standing back and assessing her work repeatedly, Niamh continues to touch up and retouch the painting at a slower pace, before bringing it back indoors. Once dried, further layers of paint are added. This results in landscapes that have been described as vibrant, energetic, and full of life. Niamh's work is inspired by Irish artists such as Jack B Yeats and also by impressionists Monet, Renoir and Van Gogh.

Enjoy this vibrant collection of paintings over the coming weeks with friends & family until July 11th 2026.  Niamh’s work is shown in galleries throughout Ireland, and her impressionistic paintings have found homes all over the world. Should you wish to invest in any our Irish artwork, we’re happy to take deposits which may be paid off over several weeks to spread the cost.
