Cruinniú na nÓg is Ireland's national day of free creativity for children funded by the Creative Ireland Programme’s Creative Youth Plan. As part of Cruinniú na nÓg 2022, local artist Ann Britton led a series of printing workshops for children aged 10-12 at the Leitrim Design House.
The beauty of mono-printing lies in its spontaneity and how it can incorporate printing, painting, and drawing. Anne led participants through this process, teaching them to use a creative approach that is abstract and focused on colours and the interplay between them.
The young people learned the basic printmaking skill of registration, the use of found materials for mark making and the sheer joy of getting lost in the work. Each child created two pieces of work, one to leave at The Leitrim Design House and one to keep for themselves to remember the day.
