CycleUp Textiles is a social enterprise rooted in the circular economy, where upcycling and community development go hand in hand. Based in Athleague, Co. Roscommon, it began as a response to growing concerns about textile waste, first noticed by volunteers at the Roscommon Women’s Network charity shop. Since then, it has grown into a space where skills are shared, textiles are reimagined, and people are supported into meaningful work.
Every piece created at CycleUp is made from 100% upcycled materials, fabrics once considered finished with, now thoughtfully repurposed into practical items by hands that are learning, teaching, and rebuilding confidence. The makers are central to the story: women gaining new skills, often returning to education or employment after long gaps, or exploring creative work for the first time.
Training is a core part of what CycleUp offers. Some who joined as participants have gone on to become tutors, leading workshops in upcycling and sewing. Others contribute as part of the production team, where learning continues alongside making.
CycleUp is not just about keeping textiles out of landfill, it’s about creating space for growth, for community connection, and for small steps toward long-term change.
