Michelle is the creative force behind My Tribe, a collection of striking glass jewellery born from a deep-rooted love of sculpture, art history and heritage. Having studied sculpture at the Technical University of the Shannon, Michelle’s early work began with slate carving alongside her father, Martin Hynes. From there, her journey with glass began, and it’s been a vibrant one ever since.

In 1997, Michelle and her family opened The Glassworks in Tuam, a studio that quickly grew into a collaborative space filled with creativity, colour and texture. It was here that her fascination with how light interacts with glass truly took hold. “The magic that happens when light hits coloured glass is like nothing else,” she says, and it’s this magic that forms the soul of My Tribe.

My Tribe pieces are more than jewellery, they’re wearable works of glass art. Inspired by tribal markings from cultures across the world, the work is also deeply rooted in place and heritage. “We have a rich history of ceremonial torcs in Ireland and with twelve distinct family tribes, our West of Ireland home city of Galway is known as the city of the tribes.” Each piece is designed to connect, uplift and celebrate individuality. “We thrive on seeing how our glass designs enhance the lives of our customers,” Michelle explains—and it’s this joy that drives every part of the making process.

With every curve and colour, each piece tells a story of heritage, place and spirit. Handmade with care using premium 925 sterling silver and carefully sourced glass, these designs are made to be treasured.
