Harriet Myfanwy Nia Tahany, known artistically as MyfanwyNia, is a multidisciplinary visual artist living and working in the wild landscape of County Leitrim, Ireland. Surrounded by the hills and forests of Leitrim’s mystical Iron Mountains, a place long associated with Irish mythology and the legends surrounding the arrival of the Tuatha Dé Danann, Harriet creates whimsical, narrative-led artwork inspired by folklore, fantasy, nostalgia and imagined multidimensional worlds.

Born in South Wales and raised in London, Harriet moved to Ireland in 1999, where she continues to live and work from her rural studio. She holds a First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art from Sligo IT (now ATU), a Master of Fine Art from the University of Ulster in Belfast and is a recipient of the prestigious Royal Dublin Society Taylor Art Award.

Working across fine art, illustration, murals and handmade art objects, Harriet creates whimsical Pop Surrealist worlds blending influences from anime, vintage children’s books, street art and folklore. Her playful and emotionally expressive works often feature distinctive big-eyed feminine characters, fairies, mermaids, plant spirits and curious dreamlike figures, each one carrying a sense of wonder, curiosity and emotional connection.

These characters appear throughout her collections of prints, stickers, cards, bookmarks and illustrated keepsakes, small fragments from larger imagined worlds waiting to unfold. These collections are printed, created and hand-finished in her rural home studio under the watchful eyes of her two cats.

For over a decade, Harriet has created murals and public artworks throughout Ireland. Her work includes a large-scale collaborative public art project in Temple Bar, commissioned illustration work for Guinness and collaborative mural projects with Kildare Village.

Alongside these projects, Harriet has developed a meaningful community-focused mural practice, working with schools and groups across Ireland to create artworks shaped by shared stories, imagination and local identity. She also facilitates creative workshops and is currently developing an immersive rural studio space dedicated to mural painting experiences and artistic gatherings.

At the heart of MyfanwyNia’s world is a love of playful storytelling, creativity and connection. Whether through a large-scale mural or a pocket-sized keepsake, Harriet hopes her work brings a little magic into everyday life.
