Gillian, the creative mind behind Beyond the Ferns, is an artist, a maker, and a nature enthusiast with a passion for thoughtful living. Her work is rooted in a deep connection to the natural world and a desire to leave it better for future generations. For Gillian, soap-making is more than just a craft; it’s an extension of her values, her creativity, and her journey.  

“In a time where our beautiful planet is suffering the results of humankind’s frivolous waste, making small steps towards caring for ourselves and our environment is the least we can do.”  

As a mother of three, Gillian became increasingly conscious of the hidden toxins and synthetic additives in everyday products. Seeing the piles of waste created by excessive packaging inspired her to take action. Soap-making became her way to create something meaningful—safe, sustainable, and handmade with care and creativity.  

The name *Beyond the Ferns* reflects Gillian’s love of nature and its restorative power. It was inspired by the calm and wonder she found in woodland walks with her children, where they’d explore, discover, and simply be. “Leaving the forest always felt like a mindful cleanse, which is how I wish for my soaps to leave you,” she says.

Gillian’s artistic soul shines in every detail of her work. She brings the same care and intention to soap-making that she does to painting, creating pieces that feel like tiny works of art. “As an artist finds the beauty in the ordinary, it’s my passion to make the ordinary soap bar beautiful.”
